Air compressors

Compressors and air compressors are devices with a very wide range of applications. Air compressors can be found virtually anywhere that air at the right pressure is needed. A petrol station, a car repair shop or a dentist's practice are just a few of the places where air compressors are used on a daily basis.  

However, in order to be able to safely carry out installation, maintenance and operation of various types of compressors and compressor you must first complete the appropriate training. In Poland, compressors are part of the equipment subject to technical supervision. This means that in order to be able to work with them in the prescribed manner, the appropriate UDT training must first be completed. 

Who can take the air compressor course? 

In order to be eligible to take the UDT course providing the relevant qualification benefits to work on the installation and maintenance of coupled air systems, you only need to meet three basic conditions: 

  • Completed 18 years of age, 
  • At least primary education, 
  • No medical contraindications to work on air compressors. 

As you can see, training for air compressors does not place any special requirements on potential trainees. It is a good choice for people who are considering expanding their professional competence. A skilled worker is very much at a premium in the current market situation, which is why people who complete the compressor course can expect to earn attractive wages. 

What is the course on air compressors like?

The training for air compressors consists of three parts: theoretical, practical and a final exam passed before the UDT commission. 

In the theoretical part of the course, students are provided with information on the safe maintenance and operation of coupled air systems. This part takes the form of a lecture, where course participants learn about information such as: 

  • Legislation on the operation and maintenance of air compressors, 
  • Types of air compressors, 
  • In what condition should the air compressor workstation be left, 
  • Technical documentation used in the maintenance and repair of the equipment,  
  • Compressor capacity control and automatic pressure control mechanisms, 
  • Health and safety regulations for the operation and maintenance of coupled air systems. 

The next element of the training is the practical part. Here, the trainees have the opportunity to practice the knowledge acquired in the theoretical part by performing maintenance and operation of the coupled air system under controlled conditions. 

The final part of the course is the final examination. This is taken before a commission from the UDT. Like the training itself, it consists of a theoretical and a practical part. In the theoretical part, trainees write an exam with closed and open questions to confirm their technical knowledge of air compressors. The questions in the theoretical part cover issues such as: 

  • Classification of coupled air systems,  
  • Fuel efficiency of air compressors , 
  • Pipeline insulation, 
  • Anti-corrosive agents used in air compressor maintenance.

Then, in the practical part of the course, participants have to perform correctly in front of the UDT commission a number of activities related to the operation and maintenance of the coupled air installation. 

Passing both parts of the exam provides trainees with qualification benefits, allowing them to work in the operation, maintenance and repair of air compressors.
